Usman Bello Abubakar was born on 22th January, 1970 at Tongo, in Funakaye Local
Government Area (LGA) of Gombe State, Nigeria. He attended Tongo Primary Schools (1976-
1982). He furthered his education at Tongo Junior Secondary School and Misau Teachers
College (1982-1987), from where he proceeded for advanced level of education at the National
Veterinary Research Institute (NVRI) Vom, for Beef and Poultry Production Technology
Certificates (1993-1994). He proceeded to Abubakar Tatary Ali Polytechnic for National
Diploma in Animal Health and Production Technology Bauchi, Bauchi State (1986-1988). He
obtained the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (2005) from University of Maiduguri, Borno State,
Master of Science in Veterinary Medicine MSc (2010) and Doctor of Philosophy PhD in
Veterinary Medicine (2016) degrees, all from ABU, Zaria and Fellow, College of Veterinary
Surgeons, Nigeria. He served Gombe State Veterinary Services from (1991 – 2007). He got
employed in Augost, 2007 as Assistant Lecturer in the then Department of Veterinary Surgery

and Medicine, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, ABU, Zaria. He has being authored and co-
authored scientific articles in locally and internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals and

conference proceedings. He has supervised undergraduate projects as well as postgraduate
dissertations and theses. He rose to the rank of a Reader in Veterinary Medicine in October,
2019. He was elected to represent Congregation in ABU Senate. He served as a Member
ABUTH and DAC Governing Boards. He is currently a registered member for practice with the
Veterinary Council of Nigeria and is a member of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association.
He is married with two daughters and two sons. His hobbies include reading and sight-seeing.
