The Nigerian Infectious Diseases Society (NIDS) 10th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference (AGSM)

Welcome to NIDS

The Nigerian Infectious Diseases Society (NIDS) was inaugurated in July 2009 as a unique group of leading health professionals from diverse backgrounds united by the common goal of promoting a Nigerian Society which is devoid of infectious and communicable diseases for the well- being of the entire population.

The Society is duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) of Nigeria and has a constitution and a distinguished Board of Trustees in place. It consists of a multidisciplinary membership including health workers, scientists, researchers, public health practitioners, veterinarians, and other individuals with interest in the development of the field of Infectious Disease in Nigeria including areas of health policy, advocacy for better approaches to control of infectious diseases, clinical practice, public health, research, and training.

The Executive Committee (EXCO) oversees the day to day running of the Society as guided by the constitution. The inaugural meeting of NIDS was held in July 2009 in Kano, followed by yearly Annual General Meeting and Scientific Meeting (AGSM).

Since inauguration, the Society has made some modest strides in engaging stakeholders in infectious and communicable diseases while providing the necessary framework for training, research, and global partnership in the field. It has interfaced successfully with relevant Federal agencies and partners such as National Agency for Control of AIDS (NACA), National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Institute of Human Virology of Nigeria (IHVN), African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET), among others.

Journal of the Nigerian Infectious Diseases Society (JNIDS)

Dear Researchers and Colleagues,
Infectious diseases continue to cause significant morbidity and mortality in all age groups globally, with a disproportionately higher impact in sub-Saharan Africa and other resource-constrained settings.

In the past year, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to catastrophic consequences in our societies. Thankfully, researchers and scientists worldwide have awoken to the reality of addressing infectious disease threats through evidence-based preventive practices and countermeasures.

The need to rapidly disseminate emerging research findings in infectious diseases has never been so acute. Being aware of this, we are glad to announce the birth of the Journal of the Nigerian Infectious Diseases Society (JNIDS).
JNIDS is a peer-reviewed quarterly journal published by the Nigerian Infectious Diseases Society.

JNIDS publishes clinical, laboratory, and field-based articles on all aspects of infectious diseases, medical microbiology, and some aspects of public health. The journal will consider Original articles, Reviews, Brief communications, Reports of clinical trials, Case reports/Case series, and Letters to the editor.
Of particular interest are articles that highlight the epidemiology ,pathogenesis, clinical diagnosis, laboratory investigations, treatment, prevention and control of infectious diseases endemic in under-resourced countries. Scientific reports on zoonotic infections are encouraged.

During epidemics or pandemics, JNIDS will target a rapid review of articles that could improve knowledge, clinical care, and policies.

Kindly submit your manuscript through our online submission system NIDS Journal

With your support, we aim to publish high-quality articles at a sustained periodicity and progressively work towards getting indexed in top medical databases.

We look forward to working with you to make this a reality.
Sincerely,

Michael Iroezindu MBBS, MPH, FWACP, FMCP, ATSF
(Editor-in-Chief, JNIDS)
